Frederick Benderet

(Man of Honor)

Ironically
The most
Difficult task
Of
The entire human
Experience
Could be
Behaving
Rationally

Then
One wonders
What is rational

If the distance
Between
Each atom
Within
A grain of salt
Is relevant
To that
Which exists
Between
The earth
And the sun
Then

Obviously
There is
A parallel
Between each component

Similarly
The relativity
Between the planets
In our solar system
Suggests
Not only
A balance
Between them
But also
An actual bond
That must exist
For the survival
Of each
In its own
Individual orbit

With this
Giving each
A different
Magnetic force
Tilting

Each other
Toward
Its staying power
Thereby
Grooming each
For its own

I ask
Now
Is this
A chain of command
Or
Is this
The only way
In reasonable
Human intelligence
Through which
We understand
Their relationship

If each star
Has
A different value
To the other
Should we
Also
With each
A different weight
In measure
Of intelligence

Power
And influence

Would this
Question the value
Of equality
As we see it

Should we have
Relative respect
For these principles
As
They would relate
To nations
And racial groups
Or
Must they
Be weighted
Differently
In character

And even
In the forms
Of their capacities
To attain
Knowledge
And execute
Creativity

Could the world
Endure
All men
Being equally creative
Would our resources
Stand up to it
Or
Would that question
Be answered
With the creativity
Of fewer men

I raise
These questions
In my search
For understanding
In doing so
My observations
Of a gentleman
Whose leadership
Under which
I had the privilege

Of working
Sometime ago
Has become
A factor
That will hopefully
Lead
To some insight
As to
The value
Of how
Good leadership
Leads
To good
Male bonding

How does a man
Summon his men
To the will
Of the enterprise
Has he
In fact
Based his principles
Of leadership
On the latter
Therefore
Suggesting
That the basis
Of good
Management structure
Applies
As well

It is my estimation
That Thought-Energy
Is played out
In the form
Of questions
Which should
Invariably
Lead to answers
And
If not
The cycle
Of thought energy
Is incomplete
Which
According
To the most basic
Experience
That I’ve had
Working
With working men
In shop environments
Yield behaviors
Which include
Lack of motivation, devotion
And self-esteem

To the contrary
Such negative results
Seems
To have been defied
By one man
Fredrick Benderet
(A man of honor)

As a manager
And supervisor
Of multiple
Divisions
Of fleet maintenance
For the city & county
Of Denver
He has had
No equal

Quite obviously
A large part
Of his duties
Involves posting
And documenting
Information
Of daily work
Accomplished
By his men
As well as
Personal entries
Into his computer

Correctness
Legibility and balance
Are essential
In the endeavors
Which
To my knowledge
And observation
Are covered
By him

With all of this
In mind
Clearly
His hands are tied
In other words
The opportunity
For an efficient
Line of questions
And answers
To be exchanged
Between
Him and his men
Are
To say the very least
Virtually impossible

Under such conditions
How has he
Maintained
Their commitment
To him

Which they
So vividly demonstrated
Each day
As I watched
Their faces
Light up
With immeasurable
Enthusiasm
And brilliance
At the onset
And throughout
The daily briefings

Certainly
He is not
A hypnotist
But I ask
Could one
Do better
By invoking
Upon his men
Such wide commitment
And attention
To the collective enterprise

In pondering
This question
I have developed
A graph
Which I call
A thought-graph
Which shows
A complete
Blockage
Or shut-door
When
Both questions and answers
Are met
With resistance

Mechanics
In my opinion
Also suffer
From
Another phenomenon
Which involves
A process
Of
Having their hands
Tied
As well

Because
The supervisor
Is primarily confined
To the desk
His most effective
Course of action
So it seems

In order to achieve
The most amounts
Of work
Per man
Is to require
That they be
Mere doers
Rather than
Questioners

Contrary to this
The machinery
And vehicle designs
Were developed
By those
Of a completely different
Mind-set

They first
Accessed
What it is
That is required
Of the machine
Then
Asking themselves
What will it take
In machinery development
To meet
These requirements

Resulting in the fact
That the entire development
Of each machine
Starts with questions
And
Answers
To those questions

One wonders
What the effect
Would be
On shop efficiency
If mechanics
Did not
Ask questions

It seems to me
That mechanics
Are forced
To rely
On the memory banks
In their heads
Which is
Of far lesser intelligence
Compared with
The much broader
Mental capacities
Associated
With having designed

Thought-Graph

Thought-Graph

Very complex machinery
By asking questions
Ranging from
Hypothetical thoughts
To theoretical thoughts
And finally
To the finished product
Therefore
The contrast
Between
Design and development
And that
Which is required
Of the mechanics
To raise
Their intelligence levels
To their requirements
Are wide – indeed

There is
Without question a
Significant
Difference
Between He or she
Who learns
From
Attaining knowledge
Into
Their memory banks
Whether

Through
Obtaining answers
To questions
By one means
Or another
Or
Through
Personal experiences

And so
Finally again
I humbly ask
Has this man
Frederic Benderet
Defied
The law of Thought-Energy
As it relates
To the inconvenience
Of asking questions
And getting answers
To them
Has he therefore
Groomed his men
Under
Such disadvantaged
Conditions
In such a way
That demonstrates
Levels
Of sheer allegiance

By
The very finest group
Of working men
I’ve ever had
The privilege
Of working with
